Apple Watch Ultra 3 review: built for Africa’s great outdoors
Extended battery, a brighter display and rock-solid GPS. We took the Ultra 3 on trail runs, long hikes and week-long trips.

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 doubles down on everything the line stands for: serious battery life, extreme durability and a display you can read anywhere. I wore it for two weeks across coastal runs, mountain trail hikes and a long-haul travel week.

Battery that changes your habits
The headline 72-hour battery in standard use meant I stopped obsessing over charging. For multi-day hikes and travel, that single change makes the Watch Ultra genuinely special.
Health and GPS
Heart-rate tracking during high-intensity trail runs stayed accurate, and the dual-frequency GPS held a lock even in dense forest cover. The 3,000-nit display is effortless to read in full sun.
Our verdict
The adventurer’s choice
Expensive, but if long battery and rugged GPS matter, nothing else comes close for outdoor lifestyles.
